In a year’s time, electric racing will return to the streets of London for the first time since the 2014-15 season, when the ABB Formula E championship hosted the final two races around Battersea Park.
The circuit layout promises to be a spectacular one, the 2.4km track seeing the drivers racing along the city’s iconic Royal Docks waterfront and also inside the ExCeL London exhibition centre for the season finale double-header of the 2019/20 campaign on July 25 & 26, 2020.
There will be plenty of home interest for British fans teams Envision Virgin Racing and Panasonic Jaguar Racing challenging the might of reigning champions DS TECHEETAH and new teams Porsche and Mercedes-Benz joining the Championship as full manufacturer teams.
Sam Bird will be one of those drivers feeling the warmth of home support. And, as this excellent motorsport.tv video demonstrates, the Virgin Racing driver is looking forward to the challenge of the 23-turn circuit.
The race will be the first time that an FIA-sanctioned championship event has taken place in and around the streets of London – with Crystal Palace hosting non-championship races in Formula 1 almost half a century ago.
I’m very happy to see London back on the formula E calender
