Formula E 2026 set for gripping finale in London

Formula E in 2026 has been a wonderful drama. It usually is!

This year marked the thirteenth season since inauguration, and the once chastened series has generally been an overwhelming hit with TV viewers and attending fans alike.

Now, approaching the final race of the GEN3 car era, several drivers are still in with a chance of grabbing ultimate glory.

Leading the standings is England’s Jake Dennis who nurses a slender two-point lead over Jaguar’s Mitch Evans – the Aussie aiming for a first drivers’ crown after finishing runner-up in 2024.

Hot on their heels is 2024 champ Pascal Wehrlein, only three points behind Evans with defending champ Oliver Rowland waiting to pounce on any mistake.

The Englishman lies only nine points adrift of Wehrlein and 14 behind title leader and compatriot Dennis.

It doesn’t even stop there. In this double header, Eduardo Mortara and Antonio Felix da Costa are still mathematically in with a realistic chance of grabbing the title and nine drivers overall.

“It’s always special racing at home in London and there’s obviously a lot on the line for us this weekend,” commented Dennis.

“The Excel has given me some incredible memories over the years, so to head into the final Formula E races here fighting for the World Championship makes it even more significant.

“We’re going to give it everything and hopefully we can finish the weekend as World Champions.”

Making the decider of the 2026 season even more special, and somewhat tearful, is the decision of groundbreaking cheerleader for the series Lucas di Grassi to retire from racing.

“This weekend’s London E-Prix marks my final race as a professional driver after 30 years of racing,” said Shanghai winner Di Grassi on the official press release.

“Formula E has a very special place in my motorsport story, having been part of the Championship since the very beginning.

“I watched it go from an idea that many thought would never work, into one of the most competitive and innovative motorsport series in the world.

“Along the way, Formula E became much more than a place where I raced, it became a family.

“To everyone who has been part of this journey — my teams, engineers, mechanics, partners, competitors, the people working behind the scenes, the fans and all the friends I made along the way — thank you.

“Now for one last time, I’m going to give everything in London and I intend to enjoy every single second.”
