DS TECHEETAH ‘the best Formula E team’, says Vergne

Back-to-back Formula E World Champion Jean-Eric Vergne has hailed his winning DS TECHEETAH team as the best in the field after clinching the title on Sunday.

The Chinese outfit narrowly missed out on the team title in Season 4 after being pipped by Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler on the final lap last year. But after Vergne’s seventh place finish in New York City, DS TECHEETAH landed the team title to go with Vergne’s historic driver double.

“Today has been just incredible,” said Vergne after the race. “The weekend didn’t start in the way we expected and today wasn’t ideal but none of that matters now because we managed to get both championship titles. It’s still unreal to have become the first driver to be double world champion and I can only thank my amazing team and everyone involved behind the scenes. This is for us!”

Victories in Sanya, Monaco and Bern, in addition to several other points finishes from both Vergne and Lotterer, meant that DS TECHEETAH gained revenge over Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler, beating the German team to the title with 216 points to the Germans’ 192.

“I am so proud of those guys, of the work they’ve done, simply to be the best this year,” added Vergne. “I’ll give it a week before we start working again for next season and try to win some more.

“Last year we did an amazing job being a private team with no test days, with very little resource. This year, DS brought in more and of course, it took time to successfully work as a team. But in the end, we did a great job and I’m so proud of them.

“This will boost the confidence of the team for the upcoming season and I strongly believe I’m in the best Formula E team and we’ll keep working hard to make it stay this way.”
