Getting ready for Zurich ePrix with Sébastien Buemi

Sébastien Buemi from Formula E Renault e.dams team spent a day at Acronis’ corporate HQ, in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, to celebrate the company’s 15-year anniversary. There were many questions about his first home race, the role of data, and plans for the future. Here is what he said:

Formula E race in Zurich

“We’re getting used to having to learn new circuits,” Sébastien Buemi said. “We have a very strong racing simulator in our headquarters. We basically start learning the new circuit on the simulator. We try to be very well-prepared because, from our point of view, preparation is the key to a good race weekend. Of course, when we get to the real track on Sunday, we’ll see if the simulator was right or not.”

Home crowd advantage

“I hope the home crowd will help. We’ve had a difficult season compared to the first three seasons where we’ve been fighting for the championship all the time. Now, I’m only four points away from P3, so it’s possible we’re going to do the maximum we can. Being at home, in front of my home fans, is a special feeling, because didn’t have any races in Switzerland for 64 years! So, I can’t wait to tackle the circuit in Zurich.”

Relying on data

“Data is everything for us. We rely 100% on data to fight on the track, to improve ourselves, as the drivers and as a team. Without data, we’d struggle a lot more.”

Plans for the future

“The plan is to continue in Formula E. Our team will change a little with the arrival of Nissan. But I’m looking forward to improving and getting better. Also, next year we’re expecting massive changes with the arrival of a new Gen2 car. We’re going to have a different race format. Currently, we’re using two cars to do a race. From next season, it’s going to be down to one car. I can’t wait to race in the new car and see where we’re compared to our competition.”
