NIO 333 FE Team welcomes Adam Carroll as reserve driver

The NIO 333 FE Team, partnered by Acronis, has announced that Adam Carroll will be their reserve driver for the 2021 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, that begins in Diriyah this month.

Carroll is no stranger to the all-electric racing series; the Ulsterman having debuted in the championship with the Jaguar Racing in 2016. An experienced driver, he has also competed in British F3, GP2, FIA World Endurance Championship, DTM, British GT Championship, European Le Mans Series and IndyCar.

Notably, Carroll guided Team Ireland to the 2009 A1 Grand Prix Series title and gained a test driver contract with the BAR Honda F1 team and a place in its young driver program in 2005. Prior to his Formula E debut, Carroll cut his teeth in sports car racing in the Blancpain Endurance Series GT Cup, FIA GT1 World Championship, ELMS, British GT Championship and the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship GTE Am class.

“I am very happy to be joining NIO 333 FE Team as Reserve Driver,” commented Carroll. “Formula E is a fascinating championship to work in; it is extremely high level and technically complex. It has been interesting to see how the cars and systems have developed since I raced with the series in 2017 and the NIO 333 team is pushing very hard for the coming season. I look forward to the challenge ahead.”

Carroll’s duties as reserve driver have already begun, gaining important data on the Saudi Arabian Formula E racetrack on the team’s DIL simulator in Oxfordshire, UK.

“Not only is Adam a very talented racing driver, but he is also a good friend of the team,” added Christian Silk, NIO 333 FE – Team Principal. “The role of Reserve Driver is obviously very important to us and I am very grateful that we have such a safe pair of hands in this key position. I am sure I speak for the whole team when I say we are looking forward to working with Adam again.”
