Jake Dennis led home Andretti teammate Felipe Drugovich for what looked like a historic 1-2 at the Sanya ePrix.
But a post-race 5-second penalty to Drugovich for contact with Pascal Wehrlein demoted him to fifth, meaning Pepe Marti and Nyck de Vries completed the podium.
“I’m really emotional, it’s incredible to win this race,” commented Drugovich on the official FE press release.
“We managed to turn it around and were super-efficient on those last 15 laps to get the win.

“But, an Andretti 1-2 [on track], to see Felipe [Drugovich] there on my gearbox towards the end was a nice surprise. It can be really difficult to manage races, and we both did perfectly.
“So, super happy. I’m thinking of my partner’s family right now. It’s been an amazing day, to do it for Bob, it’s a big one.”
As is most often the case in Formula E, the key to victory lay in the crucial decision of when to employ Attack Mode.
And, in a chaotic race that featured one red flag and two full course yellows, it was the Andretti pair who judged it late and to perfection to move through the pack and take the chequered flag in formation.
The late penalty took the gloss off somewhat, but that didn’t affect the mood of race winner Dennis.

“My engineer is amazing at keeping me calm and keeping me on a level playing field,” he added. “He’s the best in the business for that, and he did that today.”
“You know, it looked pretty slim at one point when the Nissans and then the Jaguars had two ATTACK MODES left, but we were so quick at the end, the car was so good, and we deserved this.

“We just brought it home and it looked like it was going to be a nice easy win.”
It all means that despite finishing outside the points, Jaguar’s Mitch Evans still leads the ABB FIA Drivers’ World Championship with a 19-point cushion over Oliver Rowland.
Jake Dennis wins his second race of 2025/26🙌
It’s a race to remember for @AndrettiFE as they claim their first ever double podium 😮💨
