Williams restructuring continues as Capito takes over as team principal

The internal restructuring of Williams Racing F1 has further continued after the team announced that Jost Capito will take over Team Principal responsibilities from Simon Roberts.

Roberts joined Williams in June 2020 and played a key role in managing the team through its transition of ownership and leadership following the new investment from Dorilton Capital.

“It has been a pleasure to take on the role of Team Principal following the departure of the Williams family from the sport,” commented Capito in a team statement. “However, with the transition well underway I am looking forward to a new challenge and wish everyone in the team well for the future.”

The team press release further added that the decision was taken in order to further streamline operations ‘as part of the long-term objectives to return Williams to the front of the grid’. In addition to Capito taking over the Team Principal responsibilities, FX Demaison will take accountability for both trackside and engineering.

“It has been a pleasure to take on the role of Team Principal following the departure of the Williams family from the sport,” commented Roberts. “However, with the transition well underway I am looking forward to a new challenge and wish everyone in the team well for the future.”
