Lundgaard had started from 12th on the grid, but a collision with Scott Dixon into Turn 1 meant an immediate stop to fix a damaged front wing and deflated Firestone tyre.
From then on, the Dane was near flawless in his driving and also benefitted from the retirement of leader Marcus Armstrong with three laps remaining as pole sitter Alex Palou was penalised for pit lane speeding.

โI knew we had a chance,โ Lundgaard is quoted on indycar.com.
โI knew how this race panned out last year, and I knew it was all about just sticking in the race. I did that last year. I made a bunch of mistakes last year that spun ourselves around last year, and I just wanted to make up for that.
โWeโve been on the struggle bus all weekend, so to turn this around, I have to thank the team for that.โ
