Williams Racing confirms Alex Albon for 2023 F1 season ‘and beyond’

The Williams Racing F1 team, partnered by Acronis, has announced that Alex Albon will remain a first team driver ‘for the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship and beyond’.

Albon is already well recognised as one of the most talented of drivers in single-seat motorsports, having impressed enough with Scuderia Toro Rosso to land him a prestigious seat at Red Bull Racing, where he took his first podium in the 2020 Tuscan Grand Prix after several unfortunate near misses.

A return to Red Bull Racing as test and reserve driver preceded the Anglo-Thai driver’s recruitment by Williams Racing, Albon already shining in 2022 with a points scoring drive in the season opening Australian Grand Prix, before again bagging more points at the inaugural Miami Grand Prix.

“It’s really exciting to be staying with Williams Racing for 2023 and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve as a team in the remainder of this season and next year,” commented Albon in his team’s press release. “The team is pushing hard to progress, and I am really motivated to continue this journey and further develop our learnings together.”

Jost Capito, CEO and Team Principal, added: “Alex is a tremendous driver and valued member of Williams Racing, so we’re thrilled to be able to confirm we will be working with him on a long-term basis.

“Alex brings a great blend of skill and insightful learnings that will help bring the team greater success in the future. He’s a fierce competitor, has proved a popular and loyal team member and we are delighted that he will provide a stable base for us to continue to develop in this new F1 car era.”
