Ferrari quietly confident ahead of F1 season opener in Melbourne

The Scuderia Ferrari F1 Team appears to be quietly confident ahead of the season opening Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne.

Could this finally be the year that the most famous of all Formula One teams returns to the top step of the podium due to the most radical changes to the sport in recent memory?

Certainly, the team has exuded a quiet confidence during an encouraging pre-season testing in Bahrain – both marquee drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have impressed on the time sheets.

Of course, the old adage is never read too much into pre-season testing times. But with other rivals notably struggling, is there some cause for optimism?

“What’s certain is that the team has done an incredible job preparing for this championship, and I feel much better than I did a year ago,” commented Hamilton on the official Ferrari website.

“Together with the team we’ve changed the way we relate to each other and communicate, and everyone has put in maximum effort during the design phase in Maranello and on track in the test sessions.

“We know what we have to do and we have everything we need to get the best possible result, which is what’s expected of us.”

For Monegasque Leclerc, the mood is of equal optimism as he looks to add more victories to his already impressive CV.

“With so many additional variables, including energy management, as well as the fact that they are lighter, and the combined effort required from driver and team to extract the maximum performance, this season promises to be extremely interesting.”
