Oliver Solberg and co-driver Elliott Edmondson came out on top of a dramatic Rally Chile as Toyota GAZOO Racing secured a sixth consecutive WRC manufacturers’ title.
Solberg’s victory by a mere 16.6sec from Sébastien Ogier means that it’s once again all to play for in the world’s premier rally series.
The win also means that Toyota GAZOO Racing secured a sixth successive manufacturer crown and record tenth for the famous Toyota marque.

“It’s been an unbelievable weekend,” Solberg is quoted on the official WRC website. “It’s been up and down, but the team always supported, always pushed, always believed.
“Finally a little bit of luck was on my side, and I could just focus on my job and do my thing. The little details matter, and this weekend was a perfect, perfect weekend.”

No World Rally Championship event is without incident.
And the defining moment came when championship leader Elfyn Evans’ charge for a podium unravelled when forced into a wheel change on the penultimate Carampangue stage.
It meant that Ogier was promoted to second with Adrien Fourmaux promoted to the final podium spot.

With Evans recovering to finish fifth, it all means that the Welshman still remains atop the drivers’ standings but now with just a 21-point gap to fourth placed Sami Pajari.
“Obviously we tried to be as efficiently fast as we could,” added Evans. “Of course it was looking pretty positive this morning, but these things happen. We keep at it.”
It was certainly a Rally for the record books, Toyota drawing level with Lancia as the most successful manufacturer in WRC title history.

And Ogier’s runner-up finish meant that the Frenchman is now level with fellow nine-time champion and compatriot Sébastien Loeb on 120 WRC podiums.

Next up on the WRC calendar is the Rally Italia Sardegna from October 1-4 before the season concludes with the Rally Saudi Arabia from 11-14 November.
