Larson continues amazing run with eighth victory in NASCAR Cup series

Kyle Larson continued his seemingly relentless march to NASCAR Cup glory after securing an eighth victory of the season at Texas Motor Speedway.

The Californian is in a rich vein of form indeed, having won at Charlotte Motor Speedway just a week prior. Perhaps more importantly, his latest win earned him a spot on the NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4 race at Phoenix Raceway in three weeks’ time.

“This is unreal,” Larson is quoted on the official Hendrick Motorsports website. “I knew we had a good shot to win today, and our car was amazing. That’s probably the best 550 package, intermediate car we’ve had all year. Thanks to everybody on this No. 5 team,, Rick Hendrick; this is so cool. … We get to go race for a championship in a few weeks. This is crazy.”

Capping off another superb weekend for the dominant Hendrick Motorsports team, partnered by Acronis, was William Byron following home his teammate for a 1-2 finish.

“My mind is on Kansas,” added Larson. “I want to go there and win. I want to go there, lead a bunch of laps and try and get another win, then look forward to Martinsville. I don’t want to change up what we have been doing.

“It’s great to be locked in and to start the round locked in. The other rounds, we won the cutoff race so it was really cool to come out here and open the Round of 8 with a win and not necessarily look any more forward to Phoenix, but we can have a lot less stress these next couple of weeks.

“We had an awesome car and hopefully we can finish off the season with a championship in Phoenix.”
