Hendrick run continues as Elliott Monsters Dover Motor Speedway

The Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR Cup team, partnered by Acronis, continued its quite remarkable vein of form as Chase Elliott recorded his maiden win of the season at Dover Motor Speedway to jump to the top of the points standings.

Elliott led the ‘Moster Mile’ race on three separate occasions during a race that was postponed until Monday due to rain. And when racing resumed, he was in a class of his own to head home Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Ross Chastain to the flag. Hendrick teammates Alex Bowman finished fifth after also leading the race with defending champ Kyle Larson one place behind in sixth.

“I really appreciate Alan (Gustafson, crew chief) and our entire No. 9 Chevrolet team for just sticking with it,” Elliott is quoted on the official Hendrick website. “We’ve had some tough races over the last four, five months. It’s just great to get NAPA back to victory lane (and) get Hendrick Motorsports back to victory lane.

“(I’m) just so proud. This one means a lot in a lot of different ways.”

Elliott’s win means that the records continue to tumble for this quite dominant Hendrick organisation, the team becoming the first in history to produce four different winners in the first 11 points-paying races of a season.

The victory also marked the team’s fifth of 2022 and a record-extending 22nd at Dover. Perhaps more importantly for Elliott himself, it means his No. 9 team stretches its lead in the championship standings to 21 points and almost certainly a spot in the Cup Series playoffs.

It’s also looking rosy for the other Hendrick drivers at this stage of the season, Byron third, Bowman fifth and Larson seventh after 11 rounds of racing.
