Alex Palou dominated the Alabama Indy Grand Prix to notch up his second NTT IndyCar Series victory of the season, converting his pole position to win from Christian Lundgaard and Graham Rahal.
As was the case in St. Petersburg, it was a brilliant display from the four-time and reigning champion, Palou leading 79 of the 90 laps and winning by a huge 13.277s margin.
“Incredible day,” Palou is quoted on the official IndyCar website. “I told you qualifying was one of the best car balances I’ve ever driven.
“I couldn’t be happier right now.” 😄@AlexPalou strikes again, taking another trophy home at @BarberMotorPark! pic.twitter.com/oiLSLcJcPr

“Today in the race, it was pretty good in the beginning, really good at the end, but we suffered a little bit on the used blacks (Firestone Firehawk primary tires) that we had to use.
“Another win here. Love this place, love the fans. What a great day.”

Victory for Palou was the biggest since his own victory at Barber last season but it wasn’t easy, Lundgaard only three seconds behind when Palou made his final stop.
But then disaster for the Danish driver as a slow right rear tyre change led to a 17.8s stop and his chances were gone.
He came out behind Rahal but was able to get back past for a deserved second.

“We know the pace that we had and just how we were catching him,” said a philosophical Lundgaard afterward.
“It’s unfortunate. The guys have done an amazing job, and I don’t think that’s (mistake) ever really happened. One in almost 100 starts, I think it’s OK.”

It all means that fifth placed Kyle Kirkwood still leads the championship standings but only by two points after Palou’s latest win with Lundgaard 33 points behind Palou.
