WilliamsF1 buoyed by Super Sainz podium heading to Singapore

The Williams Racing F1 team remains in jubilant spirits heading to Singapore for arguably the most gruelling leg of the F1 calendar.

Carlos Sainz drove a near impeccable race weekend in Baku, qualifying on the front row before grabbing an incredible and unlikely podium for the Grove based team behind race winner Max Verstappen and George Russell.

And the highly popular Spaniard thinks another points scoring weekend is also possible around the tight confines of the spectacular Yas Marina Circuit.

“Baku was a great weekend for us, it felt great to be back on the podium and we enjoyed it all together!” commented Sainz on the official Atlassian Williams Racing Press Release.

“Singapore is always one of the toughest races of the year, both physically and mentally, but it’s also one of the most rewarding when you get it right, and I have great memories being here. I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel and to keep pushing to try to build some momentum for the remaining races of the season. Let’s go for it!”

For Sainz’s teammate Alex Albon, Singapore represents something of a home race for him, his mother of Thai heritage a short hop away and Albon himself carrying the flag of Thailand.

“I’m looking forward to racing in Singapore as it always feels like a home race for me and will be great to be back in front of the fans and racing under the lights.

“Singapore is a very different track to Baku; it’s a tight track and physically demanding with the heat and humidity, so acclimatising quickly and getting on pace is always a priority. Our focus will be on delivering in Qualifying and putting ourselves in the best possible position for the race.”

The Singapore GP offers one of the biggest tests for the drivers on the calendar for a variety of reasons. Because the race takes place at night, the drivers effectively have to adapt quickly back to European time and adjust their body clocks accordingly from the flight over from Baku.

That’s not all the drivers have to cope with. The extreme humidity and soaring cockpit temperatures mean the drivers have to take on plenty of fluid to compensate for the up to 3kg of body weight they can lose in the race.
