The Williams Racing team, partnered by Acronis, approach the Belgian Grand Prix weekend in high spirits following a brilliant double points finish in Hungary.
It was a superb performance in Budapest, Nicholas Latifi 7th and George Russell 8th after making up several places in a chaotic race. Now, buoyed by that effort, the team is hungry for more as the calendar moves onto one of the most iconic and challenging of all F1 circuits.
“It was great to unwind and recharge over the summer break, but I’m super excited to get back behind the wheel no,” commented Latifi in his team’s press release. “Spa is definitely one of the tracks on the calendar that is very fast and flowing which I like, and it’s always a great track for racing so I’m looking forward to that.
“We’re carrying a lot of positive momentum after the last race, but we know we still have a job to do each time we show up at a track and we’ll take one race at a time. I can’t wait to get going!”
For drivers and fans alike, the famous Spa-Francorchamps regularly comes out near the top of the list, legendary sections such as Eau Rouge, Pouhon and La Source testing driver skill and bravery to the max. That, allied to the unpredictable micro-climate, will throw many variables into the mix.
What’s more, this year marks a very special occasion indeed, as the circuit celebrates its 100th anniversary.
“Spa offers a unique 7km layout with a great mix of corners, some long straights and plenty of elevation change, with each of the three sectors that make the lap having their own distinct personality,” explains Dave Robson, Head of Vehicle Performance. “Overtaking is common, and the weather is often mixed, usually making for an exciting race.”
A driver who knows and loves the challenge of Spa throughout his career is Russell, and the Englishman can’t wait to get back to business after the summer break.
“The summer shutdown was great but even after one week off, I was raring to go again. After a strong points haul for the team in Budapest, we are entering the second half of the season in great spirits.
“We are now focused on delivering the best possible performance at Spa this weekend, and the rest of this triple-header, with our aim being to increase our points tally.”
