Hamilton’s ‘nightmare’ season continues after double Ferrari DNF in Brazil

Lewis Hamilton had previously described his move to the famous Scuderia Ferrari F1 team as a ‘dream come true’ having left Mercedes after 12 successful seasons.

However, after a torrid first season in a less than competitive car, that dream has quickly become a nightmare, as the seven-time champ told Sky Sports after another disappointing DNF at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Hamilton had qualified well down in 13th position before a misjudged overtake on Franco Colapinto resulted in a damaged wing and floor that forced a premature retirement.

“This is a nightmare, and I have been living it for a while. The flip between the dream of driving for this amazing team and the nightmare of the results we have had, the ups and downs. It’s challenging.”

Despite a reasonably bright start to the year, that included a Sprint victory in Shanghai, Hamilton is yet to finish on the podium proper and is languishing in sixth position, a full 66 points behind teammate Charles Leclerc.

“Definitely not how I wanted to end the week, but I’m grateful to the Brazilian fans for their incredible support as always,” added Hamilton on the official Ferrari website. “We’ve got one final stretch left, and we’ll give it everything.”

For Leclerc, the Brazilian GP also ended in disappointment, the Monegasque caught up in an early collision with Kimi Antonelli into Turn 1 that ended his race.

“It’s a shame to end with a DNF. I was collateral damage of an incident between Kimi (Antonelli) and Oscar (Piastri) who collided and touched my car as a result,” commented Leclerc. “It’s frustrating, considering that we are fighting for second place in the Constructors’ championship.

“It will be difficult for us to secure that position now, and we have to execute the next three weekends perfectly to have a chance to do so. The reaction of our whole team who turned the situation around completely from Friday to today has been a really good effort.”
