Following hot on the heels of George Russell’s excellent second place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the aim of the game for the Mercedes AMG F1 Team heading to Singapore is to maintain that momentum.
That’s the opinion of team principal Toto Wolff, who predicts a very different challenge despite racing on another street circuit.
“After a solid weekend in Azerbaijan, we head to Singapore and another street race,” Wolff told the official Mercedes AMG F1 website. “Whilst Baku and Marina Bay share that characteristic, the challenge of each is very different. The circuit in Singapore is a tighter, more technical one compared to the higher speed layout in Azerbaijan. Perhaps the biggest difference though are the conditions.
“Despite racing at night, the heat and humidity of Singapore place a high demand on both the car and the drivers. Managing and optimising for that is a key requirement of the weekend.”

With only six races left in the 2025 season, things could not be much tighter in the fight for second place. Only 18 points separate Mercedes and fourth placed Red Bull Racing, with Mercedes a mere four points ahead of rivals Scuderia Ferrari.
“Whilst we were pleased to return to the podium last time out, and move back into second in the Constructors’ Championship, we know how competitive the field is at present,” adds Wolff.
“We need to ensure we deliver at our maximum each weekend if we are to fight for further positive results and maintain that position in the standings. That is our focus for Singapore and the following six races as we approach the end of the season.”

The Singapore GP offers one of the biggest tests for the drivers on the calendar for a variety of reasons. Because the race takes place at night, the drivers effectively have to adapt quickly back to European time and adjust their body clocks accordingly from the flight over from Baku.
That’s not all the drivers have to cope with. The extreme humidity and soaring cockpit temperatures mean the drivers have to take on plenty of fluid to compensate for the up to 3kg of body weight they can lose in the race.
