Atlassian Williams Racing unveils throwback livery for Austin GP

The Atlassian Williams Racing F1 team has unveiled an iconic livery for the Austin GP as it looks to cement its fifth place in the constructors’ standings.

With six races remaining, Williams sits 30 points clear of closest rivals Racing Bulls after a season that has seen dramatic improvement thanks to some inspirational drives from Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz Jr.

The one-off special design was unveiled by Sainz alongside Atlassian Co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes and 2002 Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya, who won nine races during his time as a Williams driver between 2002 and 2004.

“It is incredible to think about how much has changed in F1 since 2002 but the key ingredients for success have remained the same: teamwork, innovation and a relentless determination to succeed,” commented Montoya on the team’s official press release. “Williams has always stood for these values and it is clear that in Atlassian they have a partner that shares them.

“The throwback livery on the car looks amazing and is a great way to celebrate the partnership with Atlassian and the team’s ambition to return to the top step of the podium.”

Sainz, who finished a brilliant third in the recent Azerbaijan Grand Prix, is looking forward to getting back behind the wheel.

“The FW47 looks incredible in this 2002 retro livery which I am sure will be a fan favourite and I can’t wait to drive it at Austin this weekend,” added Sainz. “It’s always great coming back to Austin, and with the Sprint format this year it’s going to be a really exciting and action-packed weekend on track.

“We’ve had a strong few weeks as a team and are building some nice momentum, so I’m looking forward to getting back out there and hopefully scoring more points to keep hold of P5 in the Championship.”

For teammate Albon, the Austin GP weekend represents a chance to add more points at a venue he enjoys racing at.

“Austin is a special place and somewhere that I always enjoy visiting. It’s the return of the Sprint format this weekend, so we’ll need to get up to speed quickly with only one practice session.

“It is a challenging and fun track, and it looks to be very hot this weekend, but it is a track that offers overtaking opportunities and has a great flow to it so anything can happen.”
