For title challenging Lando Norris, the Singapore Grand Prix represented a case of damage limitation as he finished just one place ahead of teammate and championship leader Oscar Piastri.
A third place podium finish to Piastri’s fourth means that the Englishman is now 17 points behind his title rival having started the race 25 points adrift.
“It was a tough race. I gave it my all and got close, but Max didn’t make any mistakes today,” Norris is quoted on the official McLaren F1 website. “There were a few moments where we were side-by-side and had a good battle. I would’ve loved to get by and put some pressure on George, but the opportunities were so limited around this circuit.”

It had looked like Norris was in the perfect position to mount an attack on second placed Max Verstappen toward the end of the race. But despite being less than a second behind, being in the Red Bull’s dirty air and on a circuit notoriously difficult for overtaking, he had to settle for third.
With Piastri finishing close behind, it was more than enough to give the McLaren team their first back-to-back constructors championship since the days of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost in 1991.
“I’m happy with the result though, the car was fast, and we’ve won the Constructors’ Championship for the second year in a row,” added Norris. “Huge congratulations to everyone in the team who has played their part in achieving this remarkable success, they’ve done an incredible job, and we’ve achieved this together.
“We’ll make sure we celebrate this properly as a team and then get straight back to work for the rest of the season.”

SINGAPORE GP TECH TALK WITH CRAIG SCARBOROUGH
The Singapore GP offers one of the biggest tests for the drivers on the calendar for a variety of reasons. Because the race takes place at night, the drivers effectively have to adapt quickly back to European time and adjust their body clocks accordingly from the flight over from Baku.
That’s not all the drivers have to cope with. The extreme humidity and soaring cockpit temperatures mean the drivers have to take on plenty of fluid to compensate for the up to 3kg of body weight they can lose in the race.
